good morning, i'm amy hollyfield live at sfo with a story of chaos aboard a san francisco board plane. pilot was punched and passengers had to jump in and defend him. >> i'm john alston live in the newsroom. we have an exclusive interview with the woman that is accused of breaking into arecollection trebek's hotel room. live look from downtown san francisco. we have a low clouds and fog along the coast and into the bay but not inland. that is where we'll find the warmest temperatures today. i'm sue hall. we've got overnight road work and very thick fog at the coast that might hamper your thursday

morning commute. >> good morning is i'm kristen sze. >> i'm eric thomas. >> our top story, an american airlines flight is on the ground safe and sound at sfo this morning after it was delayed by a fist fight between a couple of passengers and the pilot. it originated in miami last night and amy hollyfield is live at sfo where we're hearing from the passengers this morning. >> reporter: one of the passengers that jumped in to help, it was natural and no big deal. he was doing his duties. here are pictures that passengers took on board the plane. passengers say two men were acting erratically like they were drunk or on drugs. they got disruptive. pilot took the plane back to the gate and asked them on leave. they punched the pilot in the face. a few passengers jumped in to defend him. >> there was a scuffle that took place.

about three or four of us tackled the guy. there is two of them, tackled them. i guess the pilot ended up -- we did what we needed to do on to help out. >> they said they had to hold him down for about ten minutes. police took the men away. plane arrived here in san francisco at about 2:00 this morning. it was late obviously, but they made it. many people on board, shaking their head at what happened. amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news." question, did you burglarize alex trebek's hotel room? the woman identified by trebek is denying the accusations in an exclusive jailhouse interview with abc's 7. john has more. >> reporter: she did not want

her face on camera but she was more than willing to talk and come up with reasons why she claims police have the wrong person. police are telling a different story. he was able to help catch the woman but he will need surgery as a result of that. trebek was in the bay area to host a national geographic world championship at google headquarters. about 2:30 a woman broke into his hotel room at the marriott in san francisco. he chased the suspected burglar down the hallway falling and tearing his achilles tendon in the process. they caught luda moore. she said she was never in his room. >> why do you think you were arrested? >> i haven't done nothing. i haven't gone in his room or nothing. just like i said that night i wasn't in the room and i stood

by that. >> what were you doing in the room. >> i said what were you doing up here? >> i was visiting friends. i said no you weren't. she bolted, she ran down the hall. i chased her and i didn't get more than 25 feet before my right achilles tendon ruptured. >> they found the wallet and cellphone behind ice machine but she lost cash and bracelet that his mother gave to him. he hobbled around on crutches and was able to host the competition at google headquarters. he will be in a cast for six weeks. san francisco police say she is a burglar with a long rap sheet. it's unclear how she got into the couple's room while the couple was sleeping. it shows how important it is to use all the locks on your doors

when staying at any hotel. this morning, two men are in redwood city jail after nearly two-hour chase that went through several bay area counties. it started in newark. officers from the san mateo county s.w.a.t. team, east palo alto police and chp chased the two suspects. they were originally thought to be two suspects wanted for several murders but investigators say the two men were a suspect vehicle they are not the murder suspects. chase ended around 9:30 in la tlop when officers laid down spike trips and flattened the car tires. a man trying to do a good deed in oakland is clinging to life. brother john as he is known by locals was shot in the head yesterday morning as they handed out food on 47th avenue. he was with his wife and two young daughters. someone opened fire on the van

the family was in for unknown reasons. >> he stopped and backed up. then all of a sudden police shot. i ducked and then two more shots >> 29-year-old brother john is in critical condition. his wife was grazed by a bullet. one of the daughters was shot in the arm. a witness says the shooter was alone in an older model astro van. today several law enforcement officers from eight bay area agencies will be among the first to graduate in some of the first crisis intervention team specialists. they report that 38 hour seminar is a crash course to provide skills in dealing with people who have a wide range of mental health problems. bart has been involved in two high profile shooting deaths in

the last two years. deputies from alameda county sheriff's office as well as officers from the oakland, san leandro and bart police departments are also among the graduates. >> clorox is stepping up to help the oakland police department to help oakland's communication problems. they are donating $50,000 to buy new laptop computers for the city's police cars. these computers will help officers who have suffered repeatedly with embarrassing and dangerous failures of their radio systems. >> federal prosecutors are urging a jury to honor the verdict. a jury found bonds guilty of obstruction by giving a random answer on whether the trainer

giving performance enhancement drugs. the jury could not decide on perjury charges. >> most metropolitan areas are seeing a stop drop in foreclosure activity as banks take longer to move against delinquent homeowners. 84% of metropolitan areas where the population of at least 200,000 saw the foreclosure rates drop in the first half of this year versus the same period of last year. one reason for the slowdowns, lenders are looking at loan modifications for delinquent homes rather than foreclosure notices. >> five sunnyvale families are one step closer to become first time homeowners. their names were drawn in below market rate lottery program. 19 families had a chance to get one of homes but because of the homes they can get homes at half the price. five people picked will have to

arrange for financing and if they can't get the next person on the list will be given a chance to buy the house. the program has been around since the '80s. >> let's check the forecast. >> warming things up, mike. you are a winner this morning. hot and warmer. i think the warmth will make it to san francisco. it's not going to be out of control. temperatures are just getting back close to average. it's still to going to be comfortable just like we're seeing this morning. 64 in antioch. those are the warm spots. everybody else in the mid to upper 50s with most of the clouds around the bay and the coastguard and some of them seeping into the north bay valleys but not the east bay valleys. you will get the sunshine first in the east bay valleys and have the warmest weather with nationwide few upper 90s as you head, brentwood, probably about 97 degrees. mid to upper 80s from fremont, palo alto down into the south bay.

blood. ban against blood donations by any man who has homosexual sex would put in place after the aids pandemic begin in 1980s. they are asking experts to reexamine the policy and see if there is a way to at least some homosexuals donate blood. the scent of smelly feet is being used to come bat malaria. they have developed a potent serum to lure and kill mosquitoes. apparently they like the smell. researchers are using the serum in mosquito trapping boxes to nab the bugs that are known for carrying malaria. most of the victims are children in africa. >> scientists in south korea have created a dog that glows. the fact it can be turned on and

quick retreated back to the coast were warmer temperatures and 50s and 60s around and still have 50-degree temperatures around monterey bay and inland. warmer around the bay and cloudy and cool at the coast. comfortable everywhere tonight even the coast and bay will have clouds will deal with like this morning. warm afternoons will continue through the weekend. let's take a look at 24-hour temperature change today. we have a two degree jump in concord and san jose. five in oakland and san francisco. biggest warming trend up in the north bay, six degrees warmer. sun set is about 8:22, look at cloud cover from 5:00 this morning. you can see it mainly in the north bay, around the bay shore, by noon, completely back to the coast and sits there for the rest of the afternoon. keeping you in 60s and 70s dominate the bay. 90s make a return trip to most

streets around the theater and ended up arresting about dozen people. >> a cosmetics ad featuring jude yeah roberts has been banned in britain. they say it exaggerate results that women use the product. loreal and you can see some lines on roberts and the effects are possible. an ad feesmg featuring christy was also banned. have you ever thought about owning your own ghost town? a woman is selling 42 acres in south dakota including the tiny town which was rough and tumble cowboy town. there are nine residents there but it includes a post office, saloon and two stores. asking price is $800,000.

are asking a judge to release him from prison. good morning. thanks for joining us, i'm eric thomas. >> and i'm kristen sze. top story, a flight arrived at sfo after a shocking scuffle involving passengers and fellow fliers jumping into the scuffle. we have pictures taken by passengers. amy hollyfield is live at the airport. >> the passengers arrived here in a state of shock. they got here at 2:00 in the morning. they were obviously delayed out of miami. they can't believe what they saw. we've got still pictures of passengers took on board of the incident. here is what they say happened. two people that were drunk or on drugs turned obnoxious before takeoff. they were acting so crazy the pilot pulled back into the gate and told them to get off. that is when one of men punched the pilot in the eye. that is when the plane of people really turned on these men. about six people jumped on the

guys and pulled them off of the pilot. they had to hold them until police arrived. >> a guy jumped up to help out the situation. we kind of waited to see what was going to happen. he struck the officer again and then he struck one of ladies there again. so we followed them out. that is when we followed them out through the corridor. >> got them on the ground. it took ten minutes before they were able to get these guys under control and under arrest. >> reporter: people told us they were surprised the men were allowed on the plane. they were acting strangely at the terminal. one of them was sleeping in a wheelchair has everyone boarded. men were obviously whisked away. the plane took off and flew without incident here at sfo full of people with quite a story to tell. we are very serious concerned

about the pilot. did the pilot manage to fly the plane? we have been calling american airlines, they are on central time we are working that part of the story. stay with us. this story is still developing. two grieving sisters meantime, on their way from burbank to dallas who see their father that was gravely ill was taken off a flight to oakland last night. they say it stems to a misunderstanding with a flight attendant. >> i broke on down and cried. i am afraid to fly. i said when you are serving i will have a glass of wind and he said i think you had enough. of course, i didn't have any on the plane. >> the sisters say they were removed from the plane by a

throp when they flat chbdz the suspect's car tire. >> it's been two months since michelle le disappeared from kaiser hospital in hayward. family and friends marched through the streets of the city to mark 61 days since she vanished. police say they have evidence that shows le was murdered but michelle's family refuses to give up hope. it really is strange and surreal to think someone so close to you are missing and you have no idea where they are and someone does. the family has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to le's whereabouts. they continue to search organize search parties to look for her. >> attorneys for the parolee that was wrongly suspected of beating bryan stow are asking a

judge to release him from prison. giovanni ramirez's attorneys filed court papers and they say they gave into court pressure that they concluded that he violated his parole. he is serving a ten month for the parole violation. two weeks, two other suspects were charged with the attack on stow. it's 5:35. >> air quality officials are still conducting tests but it looks as though there is no long term environmental damage from a fire at a plastics plant in fairfield. there was a huge plume of spoke in the air and people were told to stay inside and keep their windows closed. preliminary results show there is nothing worry. it destroyed about 15,000 plastic bins primarily used for

second. first i want to take a look at the winds to show you the sea breeze is not as strong as earlier in the week. fairfield gusting to around 30 miles an hour. now it's only 12 miles an hour and everybody calm to 6 miles per hour. you go is can see it's not as strong. you don't get the free air-conditioning. temperatures pretty close to yesterday at this time. napa 4 degrees cooler. antioch three degrees warmer. here we are at 8:00, note the clouds around the bay, north bay south bay coast but not in the east bay valleys. that is why some of the temperatures will be in the 50s. by noon, look at it, back the clouds go. mid to upper 60s oakland and san rafael and everybody else to near 80 degrees. by 4:00, low to mid 90s there. mid-80s in the south bay and north bay with 73 in oakland and 67 in san francisco for one of cooler spots. accu-weather seven-day forecast,

next two to three days will be the warmest in the forecast. a slight cooling trend and temperatures still pretty close to average. good morning. as you said, fog could be an issue this morning. you can see this is the east shore freeway, headlights are headed to macarthur maze. no traffic problems. areas of low visibility. check the golden gate bridge. once again coming up and over the waldo grade and through the tunnel. you will hit that fog and until it burns off you will have other activity and moisture down on your car. also, thick fog as you mentioned on the coast to pacifica. we do have a stall in oakland. this is eastbound 580 at fruitvale blocking right lane. crews are trying to tear that out of the way. >> thank you very much. >> our time is 5:38. >> the government says give it back. airlines say not so fast. still ahead the backlash over a tax break

morning news. this is thursday morning. you see traffic winding around -- it's highway 24. that is one i use every morning. hey. no comments from the peanut gallery over there. highway 24, you see the lights streaming along and traffic is moving along okay. sue hall is monitoring. that is mike giving me trouble. more muse. airline might owe you a refund but there is a chance you might not get it. faa lost the authority to ticket tax. unless they didn't adjust fares to inspire the tax. now, the irs is asking airlines to refund taxes to people who bought tickets before last weekend and just now taking trips.

airlines are not required to issue the refund, only having to do it if customers ask. >> airlines regularly raise fares and adjust their pricing. that is just the way the market works. >> it's not fair. they should really do the right thing for their customers. >> you got ask to get that refund. industry says they need the money to stay profitable. >> with only four days to go until the u.s. defaults and voted to raise the debt ceiling. don't get your hopes up. even if the bill passes on the house chamber it's expected to be dead in the senate. >> house speaker john boehner is facing a critical test, house is set to vote on his plan to raise the debt ceiling through next spring and cut a trillion dollars from the deficit the speaker has been working furiously to drum up the votes to get it passed. in a meeting with republican lawmakers, boehner laid down the law. get your act in line, he said.

palm springs 106. sacramento near 100. we'll be at 83 in tahoe. 91 in yosemite. heading to southern california along the coast, l.a. 80 and 72 in san diego. pg&e is expected to dig up an abandoned section of pipe that blew up in san bruno. they ordered the excavation as part of the investigation into the explosion and fire that killed 8 people and destroyed 38 homes. san francisco chronicle reports the section of pipe was laid in 1948 and has been inactive since the 2000's. the quality -- 195avenues. it's come under intense scrutiny since it has shoddy welds. >> redistrict go commission will hold a hearing in sacramento as they review their final draft

clouds are out but it won't last all day. >> warming trend is on the way for everybody except for the coast. good morning. beautiful picture of the cooling gray, blue clouds and warm yellow to orange sunshine as we look back towards diablo. to the east. it is the east bay blvss service. we have the warmth, we hit the mid 90s in many neighborhoods. temperatures pretty much in the 50s to 52 in antioch and 60 at moffett field. temperatures in the throw upper 50s around the monterey bay also dealing with cloud cover around the bay there. warmer temperatures of the bay and inland. cloudy and cool at the coast. good news with it being so hot in the afternoon, it will be comfortable at night and more clouds will hang around the coast and bay tomorrow morning. warm afternoon. i think it will last through the weekend. now compared to average, only redwood city is cooler and that is by one degree.
